About the Founder

With a background in fashion design and teaching career which began at Parson’s School of Design in NYC, teaching draping, pattern making and digital design, our founders journey has always been rooted in craftsmanship and creative education.

She has been a teacher for 23 years at Putney School of Art and Design and has taught everything from the Digital arts to painting in oils, acrylics and a master class in egg tempera.

These new designs bring experience from illustration, history of art and design and general compositional structure. Toile de Vivre is the culmination of her artistic legacy and fashion expertise.

Each design begins with an idea, taking into account the feeling that a place invokes. The work evolves through sketching and hand drawing characters for the design. The pattern develops through these characters and the world they inhabit.

Eventually the sketches are digitised and the hard work begins. Creating the whole. A toile de jouy can take months from beginning to end. Sometimes it just comes together. As Dorothy Parker once said “Creativity is a wild mind and a disciplined eye.”

Once the design has been created and tested in print, it can be used as an interior fabric on sofas, wallpaper or even curtains or window shades.

We only use the best, natural fabrics for our Toile de Jouy and it makes all of the difference in the finished product.
