Egg tempera is a permanent, fast-drying painting medium consisting of colored pigments mixed with an egg yolk "binder". Tempera also refers to the paintings done in this medium. Tempera paintings are very long lasting, and examples from the first century CE still exist. Egg tempera was a primary method of painting until after 1500 when it was superseded by the invention of oil painting.

This class teaches the basics of egg tempera painting.  You will learn how to mix your paint as well as techniques for painting.  Egg tempera is a tricky medium to master and it helps to take a course for the basics.  After this class you will be able to paint anything you like, however, we use a selection of images provided by me to take the worry of a composition out of it.  The course concentrates on making paint and applying to the surface.  The gallery below shows some student work.

"I cannot tell you how much I enjoyed the tempera workshop at PSAD. You and your generous teaching opened my eyes to such a beautiful medium and I want to pursue it further."  ...Susana Knaudt
